We’re delighted to have been collaborating with exciting furniture designer Ric Frampton whose latest extending dining table collection is now available to buy on our website. We caught up with Ric to find out what inspires his unique designs.
Who or what are your biggest design inspirations?
Isambard kingdom Brunel – His understing of how elegant engineering can solve complicated design aspirations is incredible.
Ronan & Erwan Bouroullec – There is a simplicity and sophistication to the forms. Also their standard of excellence relentless.
How important is it to you to research your customer before starting to design a new product?
Designers have two customers, the client and the consumer. Products are for people so you have to understand consumer behaviours. Clients know their market so you need to tap into their knowledge. Essentially, research is a puzzle of demand, trends and commercial gain.
What do you enjoy most about designing wood furniture?
Wood is a beautiful natural thing. The main benefit is the customer can fall in love with the design and the product will be unique to them.
What has it been like working with the Dovetailors team?
Dovetailors totally understand everything that is wood. They would always be my go-to for source material, manufacturing refinement and immaculate finish.
Do you have any ideas for your next project?
For me design has usually been around workspace. However, the extending table project has drawn me into the consumer market, so I’d like to explore that more.
