Our design challenge

We designed this distinctive large oak display case for Wakefield Cathedral as part of their amazing and determined steps to offer their work and building to their community and the people who visit the Cathedral. For this project they wanted to display a range of items which represent the rich history and the specials stories of the cathedral. Our challenge was to build a display case which would allow the public to enjoy the artifacts from all angles but which is also strong enough to make it secure.

How we built this oak display case

To complement the setting of the display cabinet we chose an oak finish and a simple frame to allow as much glass as possible and to enhance the display. The frame is reinforced with steel and encases axe proof glass. We have set the cabinet on large castors so it can be easily moved for maintenance. It is hand finished in oil. We have built in a wiring trunk to allow for lighting but also so that any wiring can be upgraded with ease.

We love

How the wave of the cornice and the shape of the skirting echo the beautiful architecture of the Cathedral
