Making beautiful new choir stalls for St Mildred’s Church in Croydon

We are honoured to have been entrusted with a wonderful project to design and build new choir stalls for St Mildred’s Church in Croydon.

The choir stalls are part of their big ‘Our Church’ project which has seen the whole community pool their ideas and inspiration to develop the facilities in a way that is relevant for current and future generations.

We love the fact that everyone is playing a part in the story of this thriving church and we are enjoying collaborating with them to create furniture that fits perfectly with their vision. As specialists in church furniture we have been able to share some of our experience from past projects, in particular the choir stalls for Wakefield Cathedral, although this project is very much their own.

The St Mildred’s Choir is a flourishing part of the worshipping community with over 35 members ranging from primary school age to over 80. We have designed the choir stalls to fit in well with their surroundings and to complement the new layout which has been developed so that the space can be used by a wide range of groups and for different events.

We worked very closely with the St Mildred’s community during the design process and making is now well underway. In the past few weeks John has been working on some gothic arches which will add character to the finished furniture.

With all the elements now made, we are ready to begin assembly in the workshop. It is incredibly satisfying to see a project like this evolve and we are in regular contact with St Mildred’s, keeping them updated with photos from the workshop so that they can watch the choir stalls take shape.
