Our workshop will soon be kitted out with two CNC machines as we continue to invest in the commercial side of our operations.

The latest addition will be a state-of-the-art 5 axis CNC machine, much to the delight of our creative director David and the rest of the team.

This impressive piece of machinery will enable us to push the boundaries of design and our own manufacturing capabilities. It really is a game changer for Dovetailors and means we can continue to expand our bespoke component manufacturing business.

Thanks to our current CNC technology (pictured), we already work with a number of high end furniture design companies to help them prototype new ideas and run small batches of components for new product developments. Our relationship with our commercial clients is such that we are often heavily involved in the design process and the new 5 axis CNC will really help us add even more value to their design and innovation function.

What is a 5 axis CNC machine?

We could go into great detail about the technicalities of this great machine but in simple terms, the cutting tool or component can move along five different axes simultaneously. It is ideal for cutting highly complex components and is used in precision engineering.

From a commercial perspective, the 5 axis CNC gives us greater versatility, allows us to be even more adventurous in our design work and increases our capacity.

How it will help our business – and our partners – to grow

The variety of commercial component work that we are being asked to do for partners is huge. From designer sofas and chairs to individual and small batch pieces of art for design houses and retailers, we have the in-house skills and technology to complete the job to a very high standard.

More importantly, our investment in machinery like the 5 axis CNC and the associated computer software means that we can offer a cost-effective design and component manufacturing service to product developers and high end furniture designers.

We are very lucky to work with some exciting companies that are making waves in their own industry. It is a real privilege to work alongside them as they realise their ambitions and attract new markets as a result.

The second machine will arrive in the workshop in a few months’ time. If you would like to talk to us about our CNC services, small batch furniture production, component manufacture or prototyping we would love to hear from you. Call us on 0113 2567376.
