Our new sculptural stacking tripod stool and side table uses innovative CAD technology to facilitate the creation of beautifully curved organic shapes.
Project brief
This concept was developed in-house between our designers David and Charlotte, who had a vision for a nesting stool, inspired by nature. The tripod design echoes the style of our curved stacking chair (link). We wanted this stool to be aesthetically pleasing, purposeful and designed to sit comfortably in any surroundings.
What we did
The designed was developed using our latest CAD design technology, which allows us to sculpt shapes digitally in a similar way to moulding clay. This meant we could create a very organic curved shape, without being constrained by the complex mathematical calculations needed for CNC cutting. The software did the sums for us and allowed us to focus on being creative. The result is a beautifully curved stool. When stacked, it looks as if the legs are melting over the sides.
The components were manufactured using our Bacci 5 axis CNC machine and lathe and assembled using traditional mortice and tenon joining for strength. We added a recessed seat so the stool can be used as a seat or side table.

The design has been developed using the best of modern and traditional methods. It has evolved thanks to a combination of cutting edge technology and traditional cabinet making and engineering expertise.
