Community of the Resurrection: Paschal Candlestand

The Anglican Monastery of the Community of the Resurrection at Mirfield have commissioned us to design and build a Paschal candlestand. For churches that celebrate the Easter Vigil on the night of Black Saturday, the ceremonial lighting of the Paschal candle is one of the most solemn moments of the service.

The eclesiastical candlestand will be in solid oak and reach a height of 2.5m with a large metal dish at its summit to hold the large ornate Paschal candle.

The candle will involve sculpting 48 invidual oak components that together form a contemporay spiral form. Technology-wise this unusual item of church furniture is a bit of an envelope pusher for us relying heavily on CAD, CAM and CNC.

Interior will be in oak with walnut trim. Drawers and doors will be handleless push to open.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/1″]

Crypt Oak Tables for Wakefield Cathedral

Wakefield Cathedral asked us to design a modular set of tables that could be used individually but when together would look like a single large refectory table. We have tried to capture in the legs a little of the valted ceiling architecture and give them a lot of presence – not often associated with modular furniture. They are being made in oak with a birch ply core engineered to be as light as possible. Traditional brass table catches fix the tables together.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/1″]
