We were both deligthed and daunted when the Community of the Resurrection in Mirfield commissioned us to design and make a Paschal candle stand for their community. .

A Paschal candle plays an important role in traditional Christian worship throughout the Paschal (Easter) season and the white ceremonial candle is then used for baptisms, funerals and other occasions during the rest of the year.

Christian communities around the world traditionally use a tall stand to display the candle and the brothers in Mirfield wanted to stay as close as possible to tradition whilst blending in their worship space.

Our Paschal Candle Stand design

Our tree-like spiral design tapers to its middle and gently expands out to its summit to support a large oak candle dish where the paschal candle is placed. We used computer technology to define and cut the complex geometry of 45 individually sculpted oak components and then brought them together like a giant jigsaw.

    • 2.5 meter high with a floor diameter of 50cms
    • in solid oak
    • concealed castors to make it easy to move
    • the stand splits into two. It can be moved easily and reduced to a smaller size for regular use
    • finished in natural soap

We love the simplicity of its triple helix design and gentle geometric shape. It is strongly contemporary but with the spiral giving a firm nod to tradition.
