Key Home Design Trends for 2020

The New Year is a great time to add something new to your home, whether it’s using a splash of colour to make a statement or adding a piece of furniture that creates a focal point.

As 2020 approaches we look at some of the key home design trends:

Colour

Paint colour trends for 2020 seem to be looking rather green with Dulux choosing ‘Tranquil Dawn’, which is a grey based green, as their Colour of the Year.  Neo-Mint is also trending as a favourite colour for next year.

Our Formica® desk can be ordered in any Formica® colour which gives you a huge range of fantastic colours to choose from so you can really add a pop to any room. This minimalist desk, designed by Jason Winder, has an elegant retro style and is beautifully hand finished with walnut legs.

Display

Displaying key pieces on open shelves is becoming very popular.  Choosing one or two items can really make your wall space shine and show off your favourite collectibles.

These terraced wall shelves by HeadSprung! challenge the traditional linear way of displaying objects and add a real statement to any room.  Available in 3 different shapes and sizes.

An alternative way to show off your treasures and free up your floor space are our curved wall shelves which again can be made in your choice of Formica® colour or oak.  These floating shelves are truly eye catching, use minimal space and are a fantastic way to create a home library or display your special objects.

Space

Another design trend is the use of mirrors to create a sense of space, especially in smaller rooms and hallways. Placing a mirror near a window is a great way to catch the light or you can position it to reflect an item you like to look at.  Remember, the larger the mirror the larger the space it can create.  Many of our bespoke mirrors can be customised to fit your requirements and made in the exact size or shape you desire.

This Cavetto hall mirror has classic cavetto moulding with a handy tray for keys or jewellery that makes it a useful addition to an entrance, hallway or bedroom.  Made in walnut, oak or cherry with options to add veneers for an individual finish.

Flexibility

Choosing furniture that can be useful is an ever-growing trend as we try to utilise multi-purpose pieces that can enhance and suit our lifestyles. For example, a bespoke table that can be extended when extra guests arrive, or a chair that has storage.

One recent design we did for a customer was this lovely bespoke circular box stool, which could also be used as a storage box and a chair.

You can read about the process and see all the configurations here. Bespoke circular box stool
